Services for Vern Henry Roach, 72 of Holdrege, Nebraska, were May 30, 1984 at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home, Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Ralph Strand officiating. Burial was at Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska.
Pallbearers were Eugene Roach, Michael Roach, Stanley Roach, Gregory Roach, nephews of Vern. Gerald Silver and George Silver 2nd cousins of wife, Ruth.
Born in Corning, Iowa, he moved with his family to Nebraska as a child. They lived in Sargent, Nebraska and later Grand Island, Nebraska where he graduated from high school. Vern served with the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 2, 1942 he married Ruth Elizabeth Porter of Holdrege, Nebraska in Phillipsburg, Kansas and they made their home in The Porter/Roach Family Home in Holdrege, Nebraska where he resided until his death. They operated Roach Grocery and Delicatessen and Roach's Lad and Lassie Shop in Holdrege, Nebraska before traveling with a soft goods line until his retirement.
Survivors are: wife, Ruth Elizabeth (Porter) Roach; son, Corrol Porter Roach of Holdrege, Nebraska; brothers, Robert Roach of LaMirada, California, Jack Roach of Central City, Nebraska and Harold Roach of Boelus, Nebraska; sisters, Lucille Ward of Henderson, Nebraska, Dorothy Peters of Burley, Idaho, Ruth Henning of Lincoln, Nebraska and Marian Dahlke and Joyce Hodtwalker of Grand Island, Nebraska and a host of family and friends.
