Jerald Bryson Burnette, age 76, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Carl Thomas and Nancy Chambers Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Burnette and a sister, Geraldine Grooms. He retired from Eagle Aviation in Columbia in 1996 as an aviation mechanic and inspector. He was a member of Lake Murray Baptist Church in Lexington. He proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon in 1974. He and his family permanently moved to South Carolina in 1983. Jerald loved traveling the United States with Crystal. While traveling, he enjoyed collecting and studying indigenous rocks.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Crystal Burnette;three daughters, Tonya Richards and husband, Brian, of Lancaster, SC, Crystie Burnette of Lancaster, SC, and Lisa Burnette of NJ; a son, Emery Burnette, of NC; two sisters, Clara Lou Grant of NC and Christine Smith and husband, Cecil, of NC; two brothers, Ernest Burnette and wife, Mary Jo, of TN and Elwood Burnette and his wife, Arbutus, of NC; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Gunter officiating and Larry Crawford giving the eulogy. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
