The June 18, 1900 Census San Diego lists four Boronda sisters in the household of
Alexander Jaussaud/head of household/M/43/France/ farmer/ 23 years in US
Felicida {Boronda} Jaussaud/wife/F/23/California, married less than a year;
His children {with first wife}:
Frank Jaussaud, 11, California born
Jules Jaussaud, 9, Mexico
Alexander Jaussaud, 7, Mexico
Charles Jaussaud, 6, Mexico
Alice Jaussaud, 2, Mexico
Sisters-in-law, California born, able to read, write and speak English {Felicidad's sisters}
Refuge Barondo, 20, b. June, 1879
Mary C Barondo, 16, b. May 1884 [Petra}
Josephine Barondo, 12, b. September, 1887
With their mother's death in 1896, and their father relocating to Tijuana where he remarried in 1899, it appears the four young sisters in this census had relocated with their father to his new ranch two miles south of the border. The widower Alexandre was living with his first wife, Pauline, just south of the border at the time of her death, moving her to a tent so her death in 1898 would occur in the USA. He had a rented farm north of the border for this census and judging by the proximity to the Boronda ranch, they were all probably closely acquainted. Alexandre and his cousin Jules married two of the sisters. They might all have been helping with Alexandre's five young children, a possible rational for inclusion in his U.S. household more officially than their father's Tijuana ranch, listed as his sisters-in-law. This may have been intended to maintain their American identity and citizenship.
She is listed in the 1930 Census with Alexander, now owning their farm valued at $10,000, with three of his adult sons, Rosalie at age 29 and their two youngest, Lester and Evelyn.
