On June 4, 1985, rain and wind caused severe power outages near Oklahoma City. Three people were killed on the rain slickened Turner Turnpike eight miles outside of Oklahoma City at 6:40 p.m. An eastbound car was driven by 67 year old Mary Theresa Amedio that swerved into a guardrail and cross the median, striking a vehicle in a westbound lane. Mary Amedio, of Pryor, Oklahoma was thrown 40 feet from her car and killed. Two related passengers also died at the scene of the accident.
