Gibson was born in Indiana and married Martha Hannah Llewelyn in Grant City. They moved to Lawrence Co Illinois in 1912 and raised seven sons and three daughters. He was a worker in the oil fields. After his wife died in 1921, he married Nola Buchanan. He was killed in auto accident in 1949.
