Mary Alice Heacock, 81, died Friday August 20, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospice.

Mary was born January 31, 1929 in Iowa City the daughter of Alfred J. and Clara Marie Thompson Hobendall. She was a graduate of West Branch High School and attended Cornell College. On February 26, 1949 she was united in marriage to Clifford C. Heacock in West Branch, in 1956 they adopted four children.

Clifford and Mary had owned and operated the Do Drop In Restaurant in West Branch for several years, she later was employed at the West Branch State Bank, Pearson's in Iowa City and in the food service department at University of Iowa's Burge Hall, retiring after 17 years of service.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Morgan Horse Association. She enjoyed bowling, going to the Casino, Morgan horses, and watching the Hawkeye football and basketball games. She loved spending with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her cat Teke.

She is survived by her four children: Linda Coyer Heacock of Tipton, Mark (Donna) Heacock of Iowa City, Richard Heacock of Coralville and Ronald (Mary Lou) Heacock of Cedar Rapids. Grandchildren: Justin (Lyndsey) Coyer of Iowa City, Michelle Shingledecker of Tiffin, Stephanie (Eric Bell) Heacock of Cedar Rapids, Nicholas (Deb) Heacock of Riverside, Jessica (Dave) Smith of North Liberty, Katie Heacock of Iowa City, Courtney (Cody) Smith of North Liberty, Ben-David Heacock of Cedar Rapids and Nanae Heacock of Cedar Rapids. Great grandchildren: Cameron and Mitchel Shingledecker, Codey and Caleb Detweiler, Jacob Rogers, Olivia and Gianna Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Clifford.
