One of the most distressing and fatal accidents occurred last Tuesday evening. Arthur Tilzey, the 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Tilzey, of Dehli Township, was fatally injured in the accident. Reports of the accident indicate that the Snyder Bros. were moving their threshing outfit on Tuesday to Barney Thummel's farm about three miles west of Tipton. Arthur Tilzey, one of the hands, was riding in a buggy at one side when, it is said, he noticed a board on top of the separator was about to fall off. He left his buggy and started to climb the side of the machine when it is supposed he lost his footing and fell. None of the men noticed him fall and the first they were aware anything was wrong was when they saw him laying in the road after the machine had passed. A gash was cut to the left side of his skull to the brain and the wheels passed over his leg breaking it. They at once called Dr. Mason of Cawker but Arthur was beyond human aide and died five minutes after the accident.

Claude Arthur Tilzey was born July 31, 1882, in Dehli Township near Tipton, Kansas, to English immigrant George F. Tilzey and his wife Sarah L. Haines. Arthur was the third of five children born to the Tilzey's. Jessie L. Tilzey, (1879-1970), later married Sherman Belveal; Sylvester Elijah Tilzey, (1880-1881), is buried near his brother in Union Cemetery; John Henry Tilzey (1886-1957), later lived and died in Wyoming; William Grant Tilzey (1890-1956), later lived and died in Minnesota.

Arthur had played football and baseball in Cawker and was pretty well known. Arthur was a bright young man and had lots of friends. Last year he attended the Downs College and had plans to attend Emporia this year. He was well-known in Downs having attended college there and working around town during vacation up until harvest time. He was not only well-known but well liked by all who knew him. He was a civil, gentlemanly, well-behaved young man with studious habits, always evidencing a desire to obtain knowledge and build himself up a little higher. He was converted at the union meeting held in the opera house last winter and was among those who remained faithful to the end.

The remains were interred at Shockley Cemetery, southwest of Tipton. The funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. Brehm, of Downs, at the Cheyenne Church three weeks from next Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

The church was crowded to overflowing with the many friends of Arthur Tilzey and those of his bereaved parents. The eulogy by Rev. Brehm was a fine one but no more than a young man of the sterling qualities of Arthur Tilzey deserved. To be the parents of such a worthy young man is not a joy granted to all parents and their many friends deeply sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Tilzey.
