A retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Social Welfare with 40 years service, first in parish office and later moving to state office in Baton Rouge, she died at 8:10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 92, born Jan. 12, 1906, in Vernon Parish, and a resident of Baton Rouge since 1943. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Ken Carroll of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Lakeside Mausoleum. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Scharlie Lawson Neal and Jimmie R. Neal; a grandson and wife, JohnNeal and Anna Babin Neal; a granddaughter and husband, Julie Ann Neal Maryman and James Maryman; a great-granddaughter, Lauryn A. Neal; nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Charlton C. Lawson; her parents, John A. and Julie Ann Fox Beeson; five brothers, John J., Thomas, James, Henry and Ben Beeson; and two sisters, Alice Beeson and Florence Beeson Johnson.
Pallbearers will be John Neal, B.F. Beeson, James Maryman, Hank Langlois, Earl Owen and Thomas Neal. Honorary pallbearers are Frank J. Beeson, Frank Jeff Beeson and Wilton Thompson. She was a longtime member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. She attended public school and graduated from Louisiana Normal College, now Northwestern Louisiana University. She was the center on the 1922-1923 state champion basketball team at Pitkin High School. She also attended LSU graduate school. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Corona Chapter No. 110 of Pitkin and later Myrtle Celeste No. 231 of Baton Rouge. She was a past worthy matron and had been a member for 50 years.
