JOHN ELLIOTT ANDREWS, carpenter and farmer; P.O. Butler. John Andrews was born in Clarke County, Ohio, April 14, 1821; being of English on his mother's and Irish extraction on his father's side. He was compelled to work on a farm in early life; at the age of 14 years he commenced to learn the carpenters trade, under Moses Andrews Sr; he has worked at it and farming alternately ever since.

In 1843 he was married to Jas Cunningham's daughter, Sally; the result of this union was two sons and five daughters; three are at present alive.

He came to Worthington Township in 1823 and settled near Bunker Hill, on the Hazlett farm, section 24. His first wife died in 1855, he then married Marinda Mix, daughter of Justus Mix, in 1856, by who he had two sons and five daughters, five are living. Mr. Andrews first and second wives had the same number of sons and daughters, and each presented him with twins.

In 1869, he bought 21 acres in section 31 of this township, on which he has since lived and held several minor offices. He is a member of the Masonic Fraternity, also the Patrons of Husbandry.

In 1862, he enlisted in Company E., 3rd O.V.C.; in May, 1963, he was discharged on account of disability; was drafted in 1964 and served until the close of the war in April, 1865, when he again was discharged, sick, he returned, after his recovery, to his work bench and plow.

Butler - Died on Thursday, May 30, 1889, at 8:05 p.m., JOHN E. ANDREWS, aged 68 years, 1 month and 16 days. The funeral took place from his late residence, 2½ miles south of Independence on Sunday, June 2nd, 1889, at 10 o'clock a.m. Funeral services were held at the M.P. Church by Rev. Kauffam of Bellville. Interment at Independence Cemetery.

Mr. Andrews as a husband and father, was always found to be loving, kind and true; and above all being an honest Christian man, having joined the M.P. Church quite a number of years ago. In his departure from this earth, his wife loses a valuable husband, and his children a dear, kind father, one loved, honored and respected by all who knew him.
