Ethel was born to Henry Peck and his cousin Sarah Jane Peck. She wed Barkley Selby Brooks in Macon County, Illinois on February 15, 1898. They lived in Decatur and had:

Mrs. Maude E. Brooks, 78, of 1673 W. Forest Ave., widow of Barkley S. Brooks, died in Decatur Macon County Hospital at 5:45 pm yesterday. Mr. Brooks, an architect and builder, was associated with the firm of Brooks, Bramball & Dague. The firm was involved with many major building jobs.
Mrs. Brooks, a member of First Methodist church, was born near Cerro Gordo on April 24, 1877; a daughter of Henry and Sara Jane Peck. She married Mr. Brooks in Decatur on Feb. 15, 1898; He died March 3, 1954.

Mrs. Brooks leaves a son, Don B; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Warren; a sister, Mrs. Eva Huff; a half sister, Miss Edna Peck; and a step sister, Mrs. Pearl Baldridge; all of Decatur; and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 1 pm Monday in Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Sunday.
