MORE THAN 100 YEARS OLD
" A Woman Who Kissed George Washington"
103 years ago yesterday, Mrs.Anastasia Parsells as born in this city. (N.Y)
and she still lives, a bale old woman, in Pamrapo, N.J
.Her age is substantiated by entry made in her family Bible, the family chart, and by two of her children now living. She witnessed many important events in the history of the city, and she is able to recount them intelligently.
Mrs.Parsells was born on Dover St., her maiden name was Keeline Lord Fitzgerald of Ireland was her grandfather.
In 1809 she married Edward Parsells, who was a volunteer in the French War of 1799, and also against the Brittish in 1812. He died in 1825 and his wife did not marry again. They had 3 children 2 of whom were alive.Mrs. Edward Houghton, aged 75, and Mrs Anastasia Gordon aged 77. The 3rd Edward died in 1887at the age of 81. His mother attended the funeral in this city.Among the grandchildren are, Edward W. & Herbert Houghton, Mrs.J.J.Potter, Mrs. B.F. Beckman, Mrs. William Ferguson, Miss Theodora Gordon, William W. Gordon, Mrs. J.A. Table, Edward Parsells, and Mrs.E. Berry, 17 great grandchildren, complete her family.
Mrs.Parsells spent her life in this city until 1881 , and has since lived with her daughter in Pamrapo N.J.
She remembers distinctly the hospital riot of 1797, George Washington's funeral the burials of Montgomery, Commodore Lawrence, Lieutenant Ludlow, and General Grant; Lafayette' s reception on landing, the first yellow fever scourge, the hanging of Johnson and Rose Butler the fire fiend. General Washington kissed her , a fact that she is always pleased to relate. Hamilton and Burr she also remembers.
She had a birthday reception last year, attended by nearly all of her relatives.
Mrs
Parsells is feeble a condition solely due to old age.Sicknesses is something unknown to her and doctors pronounce her lungs sound.
Although she has never used glasses her eyesight is failing rapidly. Her hearing and vocal powers are good. While her body is bent and naturally emaciated, she takes good care of herself.and is not fond of being helped. She has an active mind and a good memory.
Mrs. Parsells insists there is no place like New York, and she has seen the marvelous rise of the city from it's early days.

Her son has an obituary for July 23, 1887 death. He looks to have had a wife Sarah Jane Parsells that was born around 1813, with Edward born around 1809 - 1810, based on 1850- 1880 census etc. No burial location was listed in the obituary but it is likely that he and Sarah Jane are at this cemetery as well.
