Mourners for Juanita Williams, president of the Heart O' Texas Federal Credit Union, were gathering from across the nation -- many of them former patrons of the area credit union.

Mrs. Williams was a 34-year employee of the company who was on her way from a branch in Copperas Cove to the main office in Waco when she stopped at Luby's for lunch Wednesday.

When she did not call her office from her car phone by 1:30 p.m. that day, fellow employees began checking and learned of the shootings. A staff member drove to Killeen and found her car in the Luby's parking lot. "I knew exactly what had happened then,' said Mike Chaney, assistant manager of the $21 million credit union.

He and other credit union employees went to the Williams home in Belton and met her husband of 44 years, Sid Williams, 72, who had been playing golf that day. They accompanied him back to Killeen where they awaited word of Mrs. Williams' fate.

A longtime friend, Carol Reagan, president of the nearby Hoodville Federal Credit Union, remembered Mrs. Williams as a person who "did the best she could at whatever she did.' "I've known her for some 30 years,' she said. "We've worked together often in the past. She was very active in governmental affairs activities . . . really, involved in anything needed for credit unions.' Services for Mrs. Williams, a former director of the Texas Credit Union League and former secretary-treasurer of its board, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Belton. Burial will be at 5 p.m. in the Nevada Cemetery in Nevada in Collin County.
