Kearney-- Jack L. Campbell, 71, of 714 W. 23rd St., died Friday, December 5, 1997 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where he had been a patient for three days.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Burial will be at a later date at Kearney Cemetery. Memorials are planned to the hospital's hospice program or the University of Nebraska at Kearney Foundation for special education scholarships. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

Kearney-- Jack L Campbell, 71 of 714 W 23rd St. died Friday, December 5 1997 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorials are planned to the University of Nebraska at Kearney Foundation for special education scholarship or to the hospitals hospice program. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 18, 1926 to George and Minnie (Kienke) Campbell in Stockville. He graduacted in 1944 from High school in Wayne. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy.

In 1948, he received a degree in education from Wayne State Teachers College, in 1950 a master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and in 1959 a doctorate in educational psychology from UNL.

On August 14, 1949, he married June Dawson in Wayne.

From 1953-1954, he was a school principal at Giltner, and was a school superintendent in Glenvil from 1954-1956 and in Louisville from 1956-1958. From 1959-1962, he was a special education consultant for the Nebraska Department of Education. In 1962, he joined the Kearney State College staff. He was named the first special education department head in 1965, a position he held until 1979, when he became a full professor of education. In 1990, he retired.

He was a member of the State and National Councils for Exceptional Children. American Psycho-logical Association, Nebraska State and National Educational Association, Phi Delta Kappa and American Association of School Administrators, and a Good Samaritan Hospital and Kearney Police Department volunteer.

Also, he initiated and sponsored the second Nebraska chapter of Mu Epsilon Nu, an organization for outstanding young men in education. He enjoyed gardening, sailing, and building and flying model airplanes.

Survivors include his wife, Kearney: sons, Kenneth, Sacramento, Calif., Charles, Gibbon and Michael, Omaha: daughters, Cheryl Campbell, Rhinelander, Wis, Patricia Scarborough, Geneva and JoEllen Campbell, Minneapolis: sister Shirley Gossett, Twin Lake, Mich., and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
