John Boston Brindley was born in the Brindley Hollow. He was a learned man.
He was a farmer first, then he became head of the Brindley Family on the deaths of older family members.
The 1890 & 1900 censes will give you an idea of the family members living as a family unit. The land came from a land bounty warrant of his grand father, Ben F. Brindley who fought in the Mexican War of 1846.
He worked for his father in-law on the first phone line in the Cumberland area. He was a Prison Guard at the Brushy Mountain Prison system. He & his second wife worked in Detroit Michigan during World War II. When the war ended, he returned to Tn and bought some farmland with a home on it.
The Brindley - Hollow land was lost during the Great Depression.
There are many stories about him and the family that will go un-told. He was a man of his word. An example of his word would be the selling the farm and their home that he bought after the war. A man asked him one day what would you sell your place for, he said it was not for sell. The man said if you were to sell the place what would you take for it. Boss told him a very high price thinking that the man would let it be. The man showed up the following day with the amount he stated. He was not in the best stead of the family, he was a man of his word he quoted the price so he felt he must sell and he did.
