He served in Co. E. of the 19th Regiment Cavalry of the Confederate States from Parker county. Robert and Elizabeth's children were M.A. (female), William A., Thomas R., Jeff D., Robert S., Lydia Z., Susan Ollie, Epsie A., and Louisa F. Byrd. Robert E. Byrd served as a judge of Scurry county from 1890-1892.
