Funeral services for Sherman Otto Pelfrey, 87, of Crossville, who passed away June 7, 1999, were held June 9 at Bible Baptist Church, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery. The Revs. Donald Umphrey and Donald Wattenbarger officiated, with special music by Charles and Margaretta Presley, Wayne Matthews and Melinda Wattenbarger.
He was born Sept. 10, 1911 in Rhea County, the son of William P. and Eliza Ann Phillips Pelfrey.
Mr. Pelfrey was a boilerman for River Edge Green, and he was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pennia Hall Pelfrey of Crossville; daughters, Nellie Sherrill, Virginia "Jenny" Edwards, and Elizabeth Dick, all of Crossville; Hazel Norman of Jamestown, and Carolyn Faye Valentine of Columbia Station, OH; sons, Buddy and Herman Pelfrey, both of Crossville, Pete Pelfrey of Winder, GA, and Billy Easterly Pelfrey, of Louisville, KY; five stepdaughters; one stepson; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack Pelfrey of Crab Orchard.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Amonett Pelfrey and Viola Pugh Pelfrey; son, Billy Pelfrey; daughter, Delores Pelfrey; parents, William and Eliza Pelfrey; three brothers; and seven sisters. Pallbearers were Joe Sherrill, Jimmy Edwards, Dana Hughes, Albert Valentine, Billy Easterly Pelfrey, Gary Pelfrey, Herman Pelfrey, Ricky Pelfrey, Marty Pelfrey and Wayne Pelfrey....
