George Washington Beard was born Jan. 30, 1849, in Muskingum county, Ohio, and died at Viola May 20, aged 65 years, 2 months and 20 days. He was the eighth child of Jacob and Susan Beard. He leaves to mourn eight brothers and sisters. July 4, 1871, he was married in Platte county, Missouri, to Mary Brananman. To this union 14 children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The family removed to Illinois in 1879. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church Friday morning, May 22, the pastor, Rev. B. R. Nesbit, officiating. The interment was in the Viola cemetery. Two sons, Charles and Sam Beard of Albany Mo., arrived Friday morning for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Beard, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bateman and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Peters of Aledo were out of town relatives who were present at the funeral
