-------
Many friends are mourning the death of David Dixon, a well known and highly esteemed resident of Spike Island, near Osceola Mills, which occurred on Saturday, February 21, 1931. His death resulted from pneumonia with which he had been ill about two weeks. For some years past he had also been a sufferer from chronic asthma.
The deceased, a son of the late James and Sarah E. Dixon, was born at Edendale, near Osceola, and his whole life was spent in that neighborhood. He was aged 55 years.
Thirty-two years ago Mr. Dixon was united in marriage with Miss Ellen Roach, who survives with 15 children, namely: Mrs. Calvin Miller, Mrs. Elmer Bryan, Edendale; Mrs. David Jackson, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Clifford Swisher, Lewistown; Wilson, Elizabeth, Patrick, David, Robert, John, Theodore, Ernest, Frank, Calvin, and Harry at home. A granddaughter, Betty Dixon, who has always made her home with her grandparents, also survives. The eldest son, George Dixon, was killed three years ago in a mining accident. His aged mother also survives him at the age of 84 years, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Harry Woomer, Alexander, PA; Mrs. James Greek and Mrs. Thomas Tingle, Edendale; Mrs. Victor Stewart, Tyrone; Mrs. Ralph Roush, Pittsburgh; Jerry, John, and Wm. of Edendale.
Deceased had for years been a devoted member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was a devoted Christian, a fine citizen, an affectionate husband and father and a friend to everybody.
The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24 at 2 o'clock from his home. His pastor, Rev. Eicher, of the Christian Alliance Church had charge of the services. Interment in Umbria Cemetery at Osceola. The family has the sympathy of the whole community in their deep sorrow.
