Jess Anderson, Sr., the son of the late William Newton and Minnie Lee Anderson, was born September 17, 1911 in Mount Ida, Arkansas. Jess's life ended from a tragic accident that occured on the afternoon, of February 11, 1991.
Jess attended school in Arkansas until the 8th grade. In 1926, the Anderson family moved to the Cheyenne, Oklahoma area. This is where he made his home until 1956. Jess was enlisted into the service on April 16, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served with the lst Calvary Division in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1945 at Camp Edward, Massachuetts. Jess was an active ember of the lst Calvary Division all of his life. After Jess's discharge, he returned to Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Jess and Ruby had restaurants in Elmwood, Guymon and Boise City. They came to the Boise City area in 1968, where they have made their home ever since.
Jess was a meber of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, here in Boise City. He was quite actively involved. He was baptized during a rvival in Cheyenne in 1932.
Jess enjoyed going to the senior citizens and being a part of it. He and Ruby spent many hours helping cook for the fund raisers at the center. Not only did they help with the fund raisers, but they really enjoyed the dances that were held there. Jess's main hobby in life was dancing and he did this all of his life.
Jess was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. Jess touched the life of many people and brought love to each. Jess was a very kind and loving person and will be missed by all who knew him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Jess was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Lee, one brother, Freeman anderson, four sisters, Bessie, Mable, Elizabeth and Cleo.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruby, of Boise City, one son, Jess anderson Jr. and wife Jonette of Wichita, Kansas one daughter, Judith Anderson, of Houston, two sisters, Billy Winburn of Elk City and Marie Anderson of Cheyenne, three grandchildren, Julie, Jay and Jennifer all of Wichita, Kansas, a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 14, 1991 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Boise City, Oklahoma with Jim Parris and Edwin Modrick, officiating. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. at the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, OK. Services by Cimarron Mortuary Boise City, Ok
