Amanda married Pryor in Jefferson Co., TX, upon his return to Texas after the Civil War. It is uncertain as to how or when they met, but it is known that Amanda's brother-in-law, Thaddeus, and Pryor served together in Hood's Texas Brigade throughout the war.
At the time of Pryor's death, Amanda was expecting their sixth child. She struggled to keep bread on the table for her children and taught school for a time at Harrisburg near Houston. She later worked as a laundress. Amanda never remarried but later in life lived with her grown children helping them with their households and families. She was an excellent seamstress and made many beautiful items of lace. She received a Confederate Widow's Pension from the State of Texas. Amanda lost her eyesight in 1916 at the age of 73 as the result of an accident. She then took up knitting and made many beautiful things. Amanda was a member of the Baptist Church.
Amanda and Pryor's children were Irvin, Henry, Pryor H. Jr., Marion J., Lenora Alice, and Ida Mae. Irvin and Henry died in childhood. Amanda's parents are buried at Millwood Cemetery in Collin Co., Texas, but their headstones have disappeared over time. Her daughter, Lenora Alice Hearne is buried beside her in Rosemound Cemetery. Her son, Pryor, is buried at Dawson County Cemetery (memorial #28881157) in Lamesa, Texas.
