Betty was born December 27, 1930 in Winfield, Kansas to Louis and Lillie Bell Hess. Later moving to Harper, Betty attended Harper High School, graduating with the class of 1949.

Betty and Floyd Lechner were married in 1949, farming north of Harper, where they raised their daughters, Linda and Brenda. After Floyd's death in 1973, Betty moved to Harper.

Betty was known in the community as a hard worker. During her employment at Otasco she could locate and assemble anything in the store. She loved dogs and cats and couldn't turn away a stray. A great cook herself, Betty enjoyed eating out at buffet restaurants. She also enjoyed bowling, roller skating, and scary movies. Betty was active at Chicaskia Baptist Church and read many a bible story to her girls. She was very giving and found it hard to accept help from others.

Having suffered several strokes, Betty resided at Springview Manor in Conway Springs, Kansas the past ten years. The staff who provided such wonderful care and the residents became her extended family. The family is so grateful for them, and also Dr. Bellar, and Stan Wedman, PA, who saw Betty countless times. Betty was "promoted" to Paradise on September 2, 2010.

Betty was preceded in death by Floyd, her parents, brother Jake Hess and grandson Shane Cranfod.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Linda Cranford and husband Ty of Enid, OK; and Brenda Lechner of Harper, KS. Also surviving is Rachel and Cody Porter of San Antonio, TX; Nathan Cranford of Norman, OK; Brenna Dunn and Brett Dunn of Moore, OK; and Ruth Lechner of Harper, KS and many other family and friends.
