Melvin was born Monday, July 6, 1942 to Odie and Mattie Ashcraft in Parkin, Arknasas.

He was a retired carpenter and painter.

He is survived by his wife Louise Mefford Ashcraft, son, Richard Ashcraft, daughter, Oney Dewoody and husband Jerry, daughter in law Katherine Ashcraft, 6 grandchildren, Nicole Ashcraft, Nicolas Ashcraft, Brandon Ashcraft, Alex Cross, Travis Cross and Chelsie Dewoody, five brothers Al Ashcraft of Wynne, Louis (Red) Ashcraft of Paragould, Jimmy Ashcraft of Judsonia, Billy Ashcraft of Colt, Donny Ashcraft of Hardy, sister Oney Haynes of Wynne and Diane Morrow of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents Odie and Mattie Ashcraft, son Ricky Eugene Ashcraft, brother, Thomas Earl Ashcraft, and sister, Teresa Lynn Helms.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Logan, Justin Norwood, Brad Logan, Lanard Walker, Steve Reed, .

Brother Bob Powers will Officiate at graveside services Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 3 P.M. Oak Grove Cemetery in Moro, Arkansas.
Visitation will be Monday, September 22, 2008 from 5-8 P.M. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel 621 West Chestnut Marianna, Arkansas (870)295-2528. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home has charge of services.
