Passed away Friday, July 27, 2001, at his residence at the age of 90. He was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1945 and a native of Texas. He was a retired field engineer branch manager with IBM for 31 years. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until services in the chapel at 11 a.m. Monday. He is survived by his wife, Louise Wilsford Burnett of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Paula Burnett and Ralph Dickerson, both of Baton Rouge, Jane Burnett, Houston; a sister, Murray Burnett Justice, Corpus Christie, Texas; seven grandchildren, Dara Dickerson and Todd Bliss, Steven and Duri Dickerson, Scott and Kellee Dickerson, David and Monica Dickerson, Laura Reiszner West, Jeremy Reiszner and Paul Reiszner; and seven great-grandchildren, Alex and Angela Bliss, Drew and Stephanie Dickerson, Mallory Dickerson, Dell Dickerson and Rachel West. Preceded in death by his parents, Owen Granbille Burnett and Charlie Mila Scott Burnett; a sister, Grace Burnett Hardy; and three brothers, Carlton Burnett, Charley Burnett and Cecil Burnett. He was active for many years in conservation and was a life member of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. He served in many capacities, including vice president and life member of the Baton Rouge Sportsman's League. He was a former member and vice president of the Greater Atchafalaya Basin Council. He was a member of the Istrouma United Methodist Camp where he was a former chairman of the Official Board and trustee. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be his five grandsons and his nephew, Lester Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Crocket, Carl Spillman, Adam Boudreaux, Joe Lefebvre, Ed Scates, Al Lagroue, Thurman Willard, Leroy Dugas, George Lossett, Vernon Brewer and Lester Howard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Jefferson United Methodist Church or the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10305.
