John P. Rye, son of Solomon Wesley Rye & Margaret Ann Mobley, migrated to Comanche County, Texas in 1885 by wagon train with his wife, Mary E. Cheek, and their children, Annie, Fannie and Gidian. He was a member of the school board and a Free Mason in the Masonic Lodge. Widowed, he married Annie Elizabeth Johnson in 1896. They had seven children: Willie Clifton, Margaret Manon, Emily Ellen, Sally Mae, Mary Hope, Margie Irene and James Woodrow.
