Alvin Stennett Memorial Rites Held Saturday
Memorial services for Alvin Stennett, 60, were held Saturday afternoon at Samaria Baptist church, with Rev. James Crask officiating.
Mr. Stennett died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, where he had been a patient since March 21.
Surviving are his widow, the former Rachel Clark, to whom he was married in Michigan in 1954; seven children, Mrs. Rosemary Gramanski, Spring Valley, California, Mrs. Lilly Waters of Wrights, Dennis of Erwin, Pennsylvania, Charles of New York State, Steve of Rapid City, South Dakota, Diane 16 and Duane 14, both at home, a step-son, Raymond Beckett of Grayling, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; and two step-children. There are also four foster children in the home, Donna and Connie Taylor, Ricky Willis and Deborah Gehrat.
Other survivors include six sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Lena) Day, Evansville, Mrs. Carman (Pearl) Cullison of Albion, Mrs. Bert (Lorene) Rector, West Salem, Mrs. Pete (Irene) Ramsey of Dowell, Mrs. Virgil (Edna) Brock of Albion and Mrs. Lyman (Ethel) Bunting of Albion; three brothers, Marion Stennett of Fairfield, Sylvan of Albion and Charles of Ridgway; and one step-brother, Frank of Albion.
Mr. Stennett was first married to Pearl Fryman and all except the two youngest children were born to this union.
He had resided in Ellery for the past three years, after having lived in Michigan for six years, where he worked in the oil fields. Prior to this he had resided in Bone Gap for four years and worked as a mechanic for Hoffee Brothers, Inc. for some time. Born September 30, 1912 in Edwards County, his parents were Charles and Nattie Mason Stennett. His body was willed to Michigan State University and it was flown Thursday night to East Lansing from Fairfield, with Nale's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorial Services

Mr. Stennett, who had lived here the past few years, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He is survived by his wife, Rachel, two children, Duane and Diana at home and several children away from here. He also had four foster Children. His body was flown to Michigan where it was given to the University for research.
