William L. North Sr., 69, of Joplin, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at his home.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, with Richard Jenkins officiating. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery. The family will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

He was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Malta Bend, the son of the late Arlie B. and Winnifred North. He married Frances Helen North on Aug. 9, 1985, in Miami, Okla. He spent four years serving in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on U.S.S. Kearsarge. He retired from Tri-State Trucking after 23 years as a heavy haul truck driver.

He is survived by seven children, Billy North Jr., LeeAnn Wheeler, Roy Lee North, Tina Porter, Donna Porter, Stacy Ricker and Kim Kirkpatrick; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Sullivan; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Paul North; one sister, Arlene Novak; and one granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Porter.
