Milton E. Griner

Milton E. Griner, 68, died at the Mixson Memorial Clinic at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1975, after a long illness. He was a native of Bronson, Tex., and had lived in Kirbyville the last 38 years. He was former owner and operator of the E.E. Stringer Funeral Home from 1943 to 1946 and had previously operated a funeral home in Newton, Tex. He was a member of the Kirbyville United Methodist Church where he was an honorary board member. He was honorary member of the Kirbyville Lions Club, former councilman and school board trustee, a member of the Nathan Corley Lodge No. 294, a member of the El Mina Shrine of Galveston, former member of National Selected Morticians and was a mortician for 41 years, former secretary of the Southeast Texas Funeral Directors Association, was the original crusade chairman of the South Jasper County American Cancer Society, and worked with this organization as long as his health permitted. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in Kirbyville United Methodist Church with the Rev. John P. Rentfro, pastor of the Forest Heights United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls, officiating. Assisted by the Rev. Byron Boyett of the Kirbyville United Methodist Church and the Rev. Eugene Jonte of the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee. Survivors include his wife, Elma Stringer Griner of Kirbyville; two daughters, Juanita Stover of Silsbee and Margaret Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, James Griner of Newton, and four grandchildren, Earl Stover III, and Andrew Stover, Leslie Mitchell, and Wayne Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Troy Mitchell, Pat Adams, Prentiss and Crawford Wood, Earl Newman, Charles Herrington, Elton Pryor, Harry Watson, Toye Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. John T. Moore, Lynn Northrup, and Dr. Sam Copeland. In lieu of flowers the family requests a floral fund be established for weekly floral arrangements for the church services for the Kirbyville Methodist Church.
