Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church, Lost Nation, for Mrs. Augusta Bartels, 75, who died Saturday afternoon in the Jackson county hospital. The Rev. Groenwald officiated and burial was in Lost Nation cemetery.
The former August Wilhelmina Eklers was born May 26, 1876 in Germany. She was married Sept. 21, 1895 in Germany to John Bartels who preceded her in death in 1934.
Surviving are seven children: Hans of Anamosa; Henry Bartels and George Bartels of Maquoketa; Mrs. Paula Stender of Baldwin; August Bartels of Bellevue; Chris Bartels of Lost Nation; Charles Bartels of Goose Lake, three brothers and three sisters in Germany; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Four children preceded her in death.
