Janet was born August 18, 1956 to Billie and Travis Clifton in Houston, Texas. She attended Midland schools and Odessa College. On October 17, 1973, she married her soul mate and best friend, Roy Jay McNew.
Janet was employed in 1979 as a teacher's aide at West Elementary School in Midland then transferred to Ben Milam elementary, where she developed some very devoted time and energy to everyone that needed her, especially the children and the teachers for 31 years. She received the Unsung Hero Award for outstanding recognition. With the start of the 2010-2011 school year, Janet transferred to another position at West Elementary in Midland and just started getting acquainted with the staff and students there. She loved to cook and you could always find her and Roy putting up peas, pickles, pears, okra or her fantastic fire-breathing jalapenos! She also loved to fish and spend a lot of time with her grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her husband of 37 years, Roy McNew of Stanton; daughter Lisa of Hutto; two granddaughters, Dusty and Brittiny of Hutto; three grandsons, Jake, Michael and Jesse of Hutto; three sisters, Linda Biggs of Odessa, Ann Davis of Graham, and Marlene Dorsett of Mitchell, IN; brother Tabo Clifton of Midland; and sister-in-law, Alice Armstrong of Midland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Butch Clifton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
