Michael Scott Burks, age 47, of Rockwall, TX passed away peacefully on September 1, 2010 at home, surrounded by family. He was born on January 4, 1963 in Terrell, TX to his parents, Jerry and Linda Patton Burks.
Mike was the oldest of two sons. He married the love of his life, Treva Jill in Terrell, Texas on June 5, 1982. They had two children. He graduated from Rockwall High School in 1981 and attended Eastfield College in Mesquite where he received an Associate's Degree. He was a resident of Knoxville, TN for eight years and had been employed by Astec Underground as a mechanical engineer for over 25 years. Mike was a member and Elder of CrossPoint Church, and was recently made Elder Emeritus. He enjoyed reading, cooking, watching TV and his family. Mike was in Boy Scouts of America Troop 390 where he received the Eagle Scout award.
Mike will be remembered by his loving wife Treva and their children, Jessica Jill Burks of Rockwall, and Lauren Bailey Burks of Westminster, CO. He is also survived by his parents, Linda and Jerry Burks of Union Valley, TX, brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Vanessa Burks of Trenton, TX, grandmother, Florelle Burks of Royse City, TX, mother-in-law, Merita Harper of Terrell, TX, sister-in-law and husband, Melissa and Todd Lee of Terrell, TX, brother-in-law and wife, Clay and Kim Harper of Rowlett, TX, sister-in-law and husband, Rebecca and George Sheehan of Groesbeck, TX, nephews, Bailey and Braden Burks and niece, Shelby Harper. Mike was blessed with an abundance of uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as many friends.He was preceded in death by grandfather, W. R. Burks, Sr., grandparents, Harry and Maggie Patton, and father-in-law, Hamilton Harper.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Mike at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 403 North Catherine Street, Terrell, TX 75160. Burial will follow at Chisholm Cemetery, Highway 205 in McClendon Chisholm, TX. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Friday, September 3, 2010 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral home in Terrell.
