Laura Marie Skogman Laura Marie Skogman was called home to the Lord on November 23, 2009. Laura was born to Lt. Colonel Stephen and Claire Rainbolt on March 8, 1958 in Big Springs, Texas. She is preceded in death by her mother, Claire. A dedicated wife and mother, Laura's loving marriage of 31 years with her best friend, Doug and raising her three sons to adulthood, rank among her many accomplishments. With her gift for listening intently and understanding other's needs, Laura's love for Jesus provided a guiding light to her family and friends. Her loving support and encouragement will be greatly missed by many. Laura gave her time selflessly to the community in both the Austin and Houston areas. Her compassion for the vulnerable-- at risk children, the elderly and animals-- led to volunteer work for Austin Wildlife Rescue, Houston Coalition for Wildlife Rehabilitation, Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, Grace House Assisted Living and Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children. As a Texas outdoorswoman with her own signature style, Laura's home as well as her clothing reflected a simple, understated elegance coupled with natural beauty. Laura loved camping, hiking, boating, traveling and bird-watching. She was an accomplished artist in painting, beading, jewelry design, gardening, home design, and a master of the game of Mahjongg. Her family and close circle of friends were privy to her keen sense of humor and clever practical jokes. Laura is survived by her devoted husband, Doug Skogman; her three loving sons and daughter-in-law, Luke and Carolyn Skogman, Cale Skogman, and Stephen Skogman; father, Lt. Colonel Stephen Rainbolt and companion Mary Parriott; brother, Dr. Stephen Rainbolt, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca O'Daniel and Fran Hutchins; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Jeff Sachs and their sons Ben Sachs and Ian Sachs; uncle, Kenneth Rainbolt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Keith and Carol Skogman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darrell and Melissa Skogman and their children Dustin and Kelly Skogman, Justin and April Emerson and Dylan Skogman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Donna Skogman. Laura's strong faith in God brought her peace all the days of her life. "A wife of noble character, who can find? Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:10, 28-31. Memorial services will be held Saturday Dec 5, 2009 - 11:00 a.m. at Lake Hills Church 11431 FM 2244 Austin, TX 78738-5388. A celebration of Laura's life will immediately follow the service at Ciola's Italian-American Restaurant 1310 620 S Lakeway, TX 78734. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Elias Fund or a charity of your choosing. Elias Fund, 525 Blackhawk Ct Colorado Springs, CO 80919 eliasfund.org
