Failing in health and strength for the past several months, John K. Knapp, one of the early settlers of this community passed on last Saturday night.

John K. Knapp was born at Cedar Falls, Iowa, February 24, 1859, and passed away at his farm home north of Palmer, on the evening of March 7, 1942, at the age of 83 years and 11 days.

He came to this community from Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1883 and worked for James Sawyer on the farm, which he afterwards purchased and where he made his home to the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Laura M. Goodrich on August 18, 1885 at Central City, Nebr. To this union, eight children were born, all of whom are living, this being a remarkable record, of no deaths in this family up to his going.

On August 18, 1935 they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at their farm home, all the children being present for this event. This was a day to be long remembered by this family and the large number of friends who called on them on this day. Over fifty-three years of this couple's life were spent on their farm home north of Palmer.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Mary McCann of Omaha, Mrs. Bessie Curtis of Central City, Mrs. Helen Zlomke of Sidney, Nebr., Mrs. Barbara Chittenden of Lakeview, Oregon; Mrs. Eva Whitley of Custer, S. D.; three sons, Cal of Minatare, Nebr., Charles at the home place, Martin at Grand Island; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; other relatives and a large number of friends. All the children were present for the funeral services except Mrs. Barbara Chittenden from Ore., she and her husband having been here for two weeks in February and were unable to come to the funeral.

Mr. Knapp has always been known to his friends as a man of fine disposition, hones and upright in all his business dealings and a friend of the many who knew him. HIs wife and children have sympathy from the many friends for the loss of so fine a husband and father. (Funeral details followed.)
