SANDY (AP) - A 15-year-old girl, Shauna Lee Tuft, apparently drowned Friday night in the Mt. Jordan Junior High School swimming pool in Sandy.
Shauna was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland H. Tuft of Murray. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Salt Lake County Hospital at 11:45 p.m.
Deputy Sheriff Grant Gilbert said the girl had been called to get out of the pool by others in the group with which she was swimming. But he says she apparently fainted in the water and sunk to the bottom.
Officers said artificial respiration was applied, and it looked for a while as if she might revive.
An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
