BALE, Gladys Hedge Porter, 96, of Roanoke, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed from this life into the arms of her loving Savior Sunday, October 13, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Porter and Earl Bale, and her parents, Floyd and Effie Boyd Hedge, five sisters and six brothers. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond E. and Lily Porter of Chesapeake, Ohio; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; special nieces, Phyllis Ayers, Shirley Mills, Ruth Owen, Janet Flora, Marie Arthur, all of Roanoke, and Joyce Cahoon of Fincastle and other nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her many friends at Melrose Towers Apartments, where she resided for many years. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Old Tombstone Cemetery by Rev. Horace Light. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel.
