Irvin Merricks
CALLANDS, Va. - Irvin Thomas "Jack" Merricks age 80 of 16120 Callands Road, Callands, Virginia, died Sunday March 18, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Merricks was born October 26, 1920 in Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late Will Thomas Merricks and Bessie Wright Merricks.
He is survived by his wife Macie Haskins Merricks of 58 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Phyllis M. Garrett and her husband Claiborne of Dry Fork and Janet M. McDowell and her husband Jerry of Providence, NC; two sons, Dwight Merricks and his wife Alice of Callands and Jimmy Merricks and his wife Willa of Callands; one brother Walter "Dude" Merricks of Dry Fork; three sisters, Ava M. Willis of Dry Fork, Marie M. Woods of Chatham, and Paulene M. Wodall of Axton; eleven grandchildren, Thomas Merricks, Eddie Rigney, Debra Turner, David Garrett, Debbie Riddle, Serena Rigsby, Karren Terry, Beverly Hedrick, Brad Barber, Lee Mahan, and Chuck McKee; sixteen great grandchildren and numerous God children of the Grady community.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Odie Merricks, Wallace Merricks, Helen Merricks and Ella M. Coward. He was also predeceased by two brothers in law, Percy Willis and Otha Wood. He was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday March 20, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the County Line Christian Church by Michael Hearp, Minister and J.D. Hunt, III, Minister. Interment will be in the County Line Christian Church Cemetery in Henry County, VA. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. March 19, 2001 at the Couty Line Christian Church and at other times will be at the residence. The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Callands Vol. Fire Department.
