Alma was the daughter of James H. McMullen and Arabelle Jackson. Siblings of Alma: Olive, Viva, Clinton, and Nina. Alma married Ross E. Forbes who was born 1884 in Saline, MI to Byron Forbes and Alice Rhodes. They married 21 Nov 1907.

ALMA GRACE MCMULLEN, MRS. ROSS, E. FORBES, (1886-09 Jan 1908)Passes after a brief illness, was 22 years of age and married but seven weeks, loved by all, funeral at M. E. Church largely attended, interment at Rice Cemetery. Alma Grace McMullen, daughter of James and Belle McMullen, was born on the farm southwest of Milan nearly twenty-two years ago, and died at the home of her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Forbes of this village, Jan. 9, 1908, after a brief illness caused by a severe attack of the grip. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and was very impressive. Rev. M. W. Gifford had charge of the service. Sweet music, feelingly rendered by Miss Mertie Auten, Mrs. Ivadell Rockwell, Elon Gauntlett and Stanley Auten, with Mrs. George Steidle as accompanist, was a consoling feature of the sad hour. The body tenderly borne by young men, lifetime friends of the deceased, was laid to rest, flower laden, in the Rice Cemetery. She leaves to mourn sincerely, her husband, father, mother, one brother, Clinton, and sister, Nina, together with countless friends. The poet said, "We live in deeds, not years." Counting time that way, Alma McMullen lived a long life. Her years were full of kindly deeds. Her smile of greeting and friendly words were freely given. For these reasons she was a general favorite among her large circle of young friends, and no merry making was quite complete without her fun provoking spirit. She was possessed of an unusually active and energetic temperament, always busy, and capable to do the thing well which she should undertake. She was a member for about ten years of the M. E. Church, and was a willing worker in the Epworth League. Seven weeks before the day she died, she was united in marriage to Ross E. Forbes in the city of Ypsilanti. They planned to make their home with Mr. Forbes' parents. Life seemed a sweet and tangible thing. Their union bade fair to be a most felicitous one; but disease laid hold, and the body, never too strong, was an easy prey
