Edwin E. Johnson, retired electrician, dies at eighty
Edwin E. Johnson, 80, of 214 Main Street, Randolph, a retired electrician, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 1972 in Salamanca District Hospital after suffering an apparent stroke.
He had been taken to the hospital by the Randolph ambulance Wednesday afternoon.
Born Dec. 2, 1891 in Kennedy, he was the son of Gustave and Clara Anderson Johnson. He had lived most of his life in Randolph and was a veteran of World War I. In addition to working as an electrician, he was also formerly employed at the Randolph Furniture Works. He was a member of Randolph American Legion Post 181.
He was a past noble grand of Randolph-Conewango Lodge No. 448 I.O.O.F. and had been a member for 65 years. He was also a member of Randolph Rebekah Lodge No. 296.
Iris growing was his favorite hobby for many years. His garden, featuring many kinds and colors, was a center of interest during the blooming season.
Surviving are three cousins, Walter Peterson of Gerry, Edward Winkelman of Pittston, Ind., and Charles Winkelman of Indianapolis, Ind. and several second cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hoitink Funeral Home, 165 Main Street, Randolph, by the Rev. Albert T. Stoddard, Jr. of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church. Randolph American Legion Post 181 members served as bearers. Burial will be in Randolph Cemetery.
