In the spring of '74, Billie Smith and Joe Pike were camped at the mill spring when Indians raided and stole their horses. The two escaped by hiding, but on the return trip the savages met Smith's cousin, who was riding to the camp for a visit, and murdered him. Billie Smith, a prosperous farmer was the father of Mrs. John Zihlman, of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Arthur Slagle and Miss Sadie Smith, of Henrietta.
