Our beloved husband, father and grandfather went to his eternal rest surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.
He was born to German immigrant parents in
Brooklyn, N.Y., and went to boot camp just after his 17th birthday.
Chuck was a proud "Once a Marine, always a Marine," serving his country from 1947-1968, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military retirement he worked at the TV center in Vallejo for 5 years before he went to Mare Island Shop 51 until he retired in 1989.
He was a Charter Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran in Vallejo, Square Dance Clubs in Vallejo and Napa, driver for Meals on Wheels in Fairfield, Regular Blood Donor (19+ gal. club), Take 5 RV Club and Norcal Alpines Travel Club.
After retirement he and Carol wore out two fifth wheel trailers, switched to a motor home and averaged 15-20,000 miles per year traveling from coast to coast, Canada, and four summer trips to Alaska.
His children and grandchildren were the delight of his life. His wife and family will miss him forever but rejoice that he is at peace in heaven with his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Green Valley;daughter, Karin Flaten (Dana) of Foresthill; son,Karl (Michelle) of Fairfield; grandchildren, Lucas Flaten (Marisa) of Sacramento, Christopher Flaten (Amanda) of Lake Elsinore, Molly and Jeremy Offermann, Ciara and Kara Flaten; and great-granddaughter, Malia Flaten. He expressed regret that he'd never see his first great-grandson who will be born in September. He is also survived by brothersin-law, Lloyd Harvego (Sandy) of Sacramento, Bruce Harvego (Carolmarie) of Tehachapi, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
