Doug Best of Vonore, passed away at 10:50 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Howard's Chapel Baptist Church and retired from General Motors. He was 78. Preceded in death by: son, Carey Edwin Best; parents, Fred and Grace Best; brother, the Rev. Garland Best. Survivors include: wife-Violet Self Best; Granddaughter and spouse-Dawn and Larry Bailey; Grandson-Carey (Dougie) Best, all of Vonore; Great-grandchildren-Peter Douglas Bailey and Trevor Dane Bailey; Sisters and brother-in-law-Bernice and Will Williams of Sweetwater; Shelby Widner of Madisonville; Edna Zaioczwaski of Michigan; Devene Massey of Johnson City; and Ruth O'Dell of Hohenwald; Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Wednesday in Biereley-Hale Chapel, with the Revs. Marvin (Bud) Millsaps and Sam Boone officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m., Thursday, in Big Toqua Cemetery.
