According to Uncle Frank's Death Certificate provided by Uncle Bob (Mervin Smith), John Franklin Smith was born to Henry Smith and Mother unknown. I have not been able to confirm how he is related to our family but I believe he was a brother to my great-grandfather which would make him an uncle to my Dad and a great-uncle to this writer. He lived with my Dad and Mom for several years and worked on the farm with my Dad.

Uncle Frank married Mary Hannah (Cochran) Adams, AKA Hannah Adams, sometime around 1901 in Johnson County, Illinois. As far as I can find they had only (1) one daughter, Gladys Smith, born 28 November 1902 or 1903 in Belknap, Johnson County, Illinois and died 11 June 2000 at Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois. Gladys married Fritz John Mescher on 10 December 1921 at Massac County, Illinois. Gladys is buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois.

Mary Hannah (Cochran) (Adams) Smith died on 01 April 1919 in Belknap, Johnson County, Illinois and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Belknap, Illinois. She also has a son, Owen Victor Adams, born 18 March 1899, and died 24 April 1914 that is buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Belknap. His father was James Albert Adams.
