Cecilia "Johnnie" Irene Kartak, of Clearfield, SD, passed away peacefully at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility on August 28, 2010, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Johnnie was born October 19, 1924 at the family homestead three miles west of Clearfield, SD to Leonard and Mabel Storms.
She attended elementary school at the Clearview School in Clearfield, SD and graduated from the Winner High School in Winner in 1947.
She married Raymond Kartak on February 5, 1947. They were married for 63 years. They purchased her father's family homestead where she spent her entire life.
Johnnie was very active in the St. Boniface Catholic Church and altar society. In her later years she belonged to the Clearfield hall Auxiliary.
She enjoyed cooking and baking and was always trying a "new" recipe. She was well noted for her "fried chicken and open jar pickles". She also enjoyed her grandchildren.
Johnnie is survived by her husband Raymond and children: Sharon (Rick) Spellman; Bev (Bob) Soll; Rick (Joyce) Kartak; Gwen; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her sisters Mamie Crane of Eugene, OR, Emerald Diez of Winner, SD, and Mary Jorgensen of Ideal, SD, sisters-in-law: Leona Storms of Clearfield, SD, and Ruth Storms, of Winner, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Clara Frank; and Gen Fast, and her brothers: Leo and Donnie Storms.
