Carlos Busby Ashby, 81, 2263 19th East, former assistant superintendent of Kennecott Copper Corp.'s concentrator in Magna, died of natural causes Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Ashby was born January 17, 1885, in Leeds, Washington County, to Richard Hammond and Esther Ann Busby Ashby. He married Myrtle Pauline Evans, May 29, 1911, in Phoenix, Arizona.
He began working at the Copperton experimental mill in Bingham Canyon in 1905. When the Magna plant was begun in 1907, Mr. Ashby was transferred there.
He was later General Mill forman at the Ray Consolidated Copper Co. in Hayden, Arizona and at Chino Copper Co., Jurley, New. Mexico. He also worked at the Alaska Gastineau Mining Co., Thane, Alaska.
Mr. Ashby retired in 1950 after 47 years at Kennecott service.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Survivors include his widow, sons and daughters, Ted, New York City; Jack, Huntington Beach, California; Mrs. Occie (Dorothy) Evans, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lenn H. (Virginia) White and Mrs. Robert C. (Beth) Reid, both of Murray; 31 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at 4760 S. State, Murray. Friends may call at the mortuary prior to services.
Burial will be in the Elysian Burial Gardens.
