Wilson and his family moved from Illinois to Marion County, Iowa, when he was 12 years old. He was a veteran of the Civil War. At age 19, he enlisted as a Private on 14 Oct 1861. He mustered into Co L 4th Iowa Cavalry on 25 Nov 1861. Wilson mustered out on 5 Dec 1864 at Memphis, Tennessee.

Wilson was injured at the Battle of Mine Creek in Kansas in 1864. He received an injury in his left thigh when his horse fell on him during a charge in battle.

After he was discharged, he returned to Iowa and farming. He lived in Pella and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and later lived in Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Minnesota.

Wilson married Mary Conners July 1864 in Memphis TN. They divorced in 1880. His 2nd marriage took place in Nov 1882 in Moorhead, IA to Lucinda K Taylor. After Lucinda's death in 1903 Wilson married Mary F Blanchard in Arkansas on 16 Jan 1904. Wilson had a daughter, I. Alwida, who was born June 1905 and died at the age of one month.

Wilson died in 1927 at the age of 84 years.
