Melvin Dority
Melvin B. Dority, 66, of Visalia died of cancer Monday at a Visalia hospital.
He was born, raised, and educated in Hanford. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was in the Bataan Death March and a prisoner of the Japanese for 3 1/2 years.
In 1946, he went to work for the Bank of America in Visalia as a teller trainee. He married the former Hazel Huntley in Visalia in 1947.
In 1958, he moved to Exeter to work for the Bank of America as an operation officer. He moved to the Tulare Bank of America as a lending officer in 1962 (date corrected by Hazel H. Dority-said 1964), then back to Visalia Bank of America in 1968 as assistant vice president head consumer loan officer. He retired in 1981.
He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 18; member of the Visalia Country Club; Visalia Elk's Lodge 1298, Visalia Moose Lodge 546 and the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Rosemary Isbell of Montrose, Colo., a brother, Everett Dority of Cayucos; and five grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Hadley Funeral Chapel with burial at Visalia District Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the chapel.
