SPRINGFIELD - Andrew A. Ely, 88, of Springfield died at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 22, 1922 in Springfield to Barney and Caroline Sheets Ely. He was preceded in death by his father Barney Ely, his step father Ervin Guyett and his mother Caroline Guyett, 2 brothers: Barney Ely and Ervin Guyett and 3 sisters: Eleanor Ely, Gertrude Wilson and Mary McDermott. He married his wife of 65 years, Wanda L. Smith on July 10, 1945 and she survives.
Andrew is survived by his wife Wanda L. Ely; 2 daughters: Linda Jones of Springfield and Ellie (Jim) Harms of Athens; 1 son: Ross (Helen) Ely of Springfield, 5 grandchildren: Chris (Sarah) Jones, Katie (Tony) Stanley, Kiel Harms, Randy Ely and Kelsey Harms; 2 great-grandchildren: MacKenzie Stanley and Addison Jones; 1 sister: Lou (Edward) Covey of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He formerly owned BSA and Yamaha Motorcycle Dealerships. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local and helped on the reconstruction of the Old State Capitol. He enjoyed golfing, garage sales, traveling, playing country music on this guitar and camping.
