At age 20 he moved to Fitzwilliam and started a close pin factory after working at his father's plant several years. In 1865 he bought his father's plant. In 1872-73 he built a saw-mill and box factory on road 8. He employed from 12-20 men “in getting out lumber and chair-stock and in manufacturing boxes.” He served the town of MARLBOROUGH, NH as selectman, representative to the legislature and was a county commissioner. He was a Republican and a member of New Hampshire state senate 13th District, 1903-04
