Died: Nov. 24, 1994
ERWIN - Della Mae Hice Erwin, 86, of Route 2, the Temple Hill community, died Thursday at Erwin Health Care Center.
Mrs. Erwin was born in Chuckey, a daughter of the late John Westley and Sarah Keller Hice. She had lived most of her life in Unicoi County.
She was a member of the Shallow Ford Baptist Church. She was a substitute teacher in the Unicoi County School System for a number of years. She was an honorary life member of the Temple Hill Parent-Teacher Association, where she at one time served as president. She had also been a member of the Temple Hill Home Demonstration Club, now known as the Family & Community Education Club.
She was the widow of Joseph Ralph Erwin, who died in 1967, and was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons: Richard Curtis Erwin of Ocala, Fla., and Ralph Erwin of Bristol; three grandsons: Joseph Erwin of Johnson City and David Michael Erwin and Daniel Joseph Erwin, both of Columbia, S.C.; three granddaughters: Mrs. Greg (Rebecca) Steels of St. Augustine, Fla., Mrs. Cliff (Mary) Hughes of Christiansburg, VA, and Mrs. Jeff (Sandra) Dick of Charlottesville, VA, two great-grandchildren: Mary Ashley Hughes of Christiansburg and Joshua Dick of Charlottesville; one brother: Robert Hice of Knoxville; one sister: Mrs. Hazel Wilson of Afton: and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Ledford Funeral Home, 720 Ohio Ave., Erwin.
The funeral service will follow at 8 o'clock in the chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Tom Cocklereece and the Rev. Robert Polk will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Chuckey United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home by 7:30 p.m. Saturday, will be Lynn Gilbert, Clifton Garland, Henry Clouse, Anderson Pate, Gene Frye, and Horace Treadway.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shallow Ford Baptist Church, Route 2, Erwin, TN 37650.
