Mike was born and raised in Palmer, Ellis County, Texas where his father owned a grocery and general merchandise store. As a youth, Mike worked in his father's store and went to the Palmer schools until he was about 16 years of age. In 1925 a new high school, Sunset High, was opened in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. His father felt that Mike could get a better education in the larger Dallas School system and so sent Mike to Dallas where he boarded and attended school and was in one of the first graduating classes from Sunset. Mike attended college at TCU in Fort Worth.

Sometime prior to WWII, his parents moved to Ferris where his father started a Cheverolet Auto Dealership. Again Mike worked in his father's business. At the start of WWII, Mike joined the US Army and while in the Army, he met and married a school teacher, Letha Lucille Gorman, who was from the Rankin Community of Ellis County.

They had a daughter Lucy Jeanne born in Dallas in 1944 while Mike was still in the Army. When he returned home after the War, he went into partmership in the auto dealership with his father. His father died just two years later in 1947, leaving Mike to run the business alone.

In 1953 his only son, Urbin C. Mckeever was born.

Mike continued to operate the McKeever Cheverolet businees in Ferris until the late 1960's. During one period he was elected Mayor of Ferris. He sold the dealership and moved to Waxahachie where his son Urbin attended Waxahachie High School. Mike spent his time manageing his stock investments.

Mike was an avid supporter of TCU football and liked to attend the Indy 500 and Kentucky Derby.
