MICHIGAN CITY - Mrs. Gertrude M. Barnett Smith, 91, of LaPorte, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at 2:45 p.m. at Country Care Living in LaPorte.
She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Monmouth, Ill., to Selden James and Maude Ellen (Frymire) Barnett.
Mrs. Smith was secretary to the vice president and comptroller of the Chicago South Bend and South Shore Railroad. She was a member of First Christian Church in Michigan City, where she worked with the Young People's Missionary Society, and held offices with the International Society of Christian Endeavor. She was involved with Lake Region Christian Assembly service camp and was a member of Lake Michigan Chapter 98 of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
On July 4, 1961, in Michigan City, she married Leonard Smith, who died in 1987.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Leona Prihoda and Frances Collins; and her brothers, James R. and John S. Barnett.
Surviving is one sister-in-law, Dorothy Barnett of Michigan City.
The funeral was today at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Klobucar officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
